CAGE started their career by winning a reader’s
choice poll in the prestigious German Rock magazine, HEAVY, as the
best new CD of the year, with their first release, “Unveiled”. The
prize was a date at the DYNAMO Festival in Holland , which Metallica
headlined. That was in 1999. Since then they have released a
series of CDS, with each one receiving even greater reviews, and
their reputation as being one of Metal’s best bands has continued to
grow.
The success of their second release, ASTROLOGY,
allowed CAGE to make the next advance in their career by playing 2
festivals in Europe in the summer of 2001. They were selected to
play the prestigious WACKEN Open Air Festival in Germany and the
METAL DAYZ Open Air Festival in Switzerland .
CAGE has been reviewed by local and worldwide critics
at shows abroad and have commented time and time again, that they
possess a special quality in their live performance. That "it"
happens when they play live, and that has garnered them accolades
time and time again as the "best band of the festival". This was the
case at the WACKEN and the METAL DAYZ as CAGE captured the
imagination and attention of everyone in attendance. These were the
pinnacle performances of their career to date and as always, they
delivered when it counted the most.
CAGE released their 3rd cd "DARKER THAN BLACK" in
early 2003. The album was recorded at world famous SILVER CLOUD
Studios (BRUCE DICKINSON / HALFORD / ROB ROCK) in Burbank ,
California . The recording was produced and engineered by Richard
"The Guru" Carrette (HALFORD, BRUCE DICKINSON, STEEL PROPHET, WAYNE)
and CAGE vocalist Sean Peck.
Upon its release, DARKER THAN BLACK was hailed as an instant
all-time classic cd by many of the metal industry leading magazines
and webzines worldwide by getting dozens of perfect reviews and
scores and especially the metal hungry army of loyal CAGE fans.
The review of DARKER THAN BLACK in the prestigious German metal
magazine HEAVY received the very top score from the magazine's
journalists and finished in the #1 position on their Soundcheck
chart. The cd beat out older and established bands such as OVERKILL,
THE HAUNTED, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KROKUS, ANTHRAX, CRADLE OF FILTH,
SHADOW'S FALL and BIOHAZARD, among many others.
CAGE followed the release of DARKER THAN BLACK in
March 2003 by doing what they do best and that is tearing up stages
in the United States and Mexico . The band played prestigious
festivals and high profile events that year to include the BRAVE
WORDS 6 PACK WEEKEND festival in Cleveland, Ohio; LA GATES OF METAL
festival in Los Angeles, California; MILWAUKEE METALFEST in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin; BANG YOUR HEAD USA festival in San Diego,
California and their 1st ever gig in Mexico at the FIESTAS DEL SOL
State Fairgrounds in Baja California, Mexico supporting the popular
Mexican rock bands MALDITA VECINDAD and VICTIMAS DEL DOCTOR CEREBRO
and other regional shows alongside SEVEN WITCHES; BLACK N BLUE;
BITCH and HERETIC.
2004 saw CAGE making a major advance in Mexico by playing at the
EPICA festival in Mexico City as special guest of KAMELOT; the BANG
YOUR HEAD festival in Germany; the largest heavy metal festival ever
promoted in Mexico, the MONTERREY METAL FEST Vol. 1, which saw the
band billed on the Main Stage alongside classic bands such as
TWISTED SISTER; DIO; QUIET RIOT; DOKKEN; HATEBREED and SHAMAN;
multiple night side stage support slots for IRON MAIDEN / ARCH ENEMY
and SCORPIONS / TESLA concerts at the Universal Amphitheater in Los
Angeles , California ; shows at MIRAMAR and CAMP PENDLETON U.S.
Marine Corps bases in San Diego , California and other regional
shows supporting W.A.S.P.
In 2007, CAGE FINALLY released their new 4th cd HELL
DESTROYER . The review of HELL DESTROYER in the prestigious German
metal magazine HEAVY received the very top score from the magazine's
journalists and finished in the #1 position on their Soundcheck
chart for the 2nd consecutive cd. The cd beat out older and
established bands such as DREAM THEATER; PARADISE LOST; ALLEN/ LANDE;
KAMELOT; NOCTURNAL RITES; SONATA ARCTICA; IRON SAVIOR, among many
others.
In an ironic twist of fate, long time CAGE drummer
Mikey Niel parted ways with CAGE during late summer.
Taking the new CAGE drummer position is long time
San Diego , California powerhouse drummer Norm Leggio, formerly of
the legendary cult prog-metal band PSYCHOTIC WALTZ who has infused
new added levels of energy to the band with his lightning fast
hands, double bass drumming and hard hitting showmanship.
